Edith Crowley's wedding dress I found one

You would just have to change the back of the skirt to make it more train-like. Silk charmeuse would do the trick.

I just wanted to note that this Burda pattern is drafted for "tall" women -- above 5'8", if I remember correctly. If you're shorter than that, be prepared to make some changes!

I was looking at a bridal magazine and there were quite a few late 20's early 30's styles.Lots of soft lace details and beading,sleeves and drapey bodices.This is really a change from the strapless,molded look.I wonder if this will influence fashion to be prettier and more forgiving of different body types.

There are so many lovely things you can do with a dress if it has a bodice and sleeves. Even though some strapless gowns are beautiful, I think they often project a slightly tatty "Queen for a Day" effect, and they are seldom truly flattering to the wearer. Here's a cranky piece on the subject.

I heartily agree with her. But perhaps I've been watching too many reruns of Say Yes to the Dress while sewing and seeing too many bridezillas in, often, slutty dresses. Subject: Edith Crowleys wedding dress Date: 2/11/13 6:39 PM Sometimes I go on e-bay and look at all the patterns from the 80's for some releif .But they too were kind of overdone with huge sleeves and 6 yd skirts. I sewed many of those and the girl would be so drowned in all that. I really think brides often search for some sort of fantasy image and whatever is the latest in the mfgs houses they want to have an extreme version. Even Disney has a line of dresses.Wedding clothes used to be pretty much a formal rendition in fine fabrics of the prevalent style or even just a new suit.It's too bad thats there is all the pressure which creates Bridezillas-like the more drama there is makes the day significant.Where is all that coming from?So many of the say yes girls are so unhappy.

I officiate weddings as a side job, and never ceased to be amazed. I'll admit that my wedding dress was very low cut, but the display of bosom I see at most weddings is obscene! That and just tacky ill-fitting gowns. Strapless are a pet peeve of mine because most aren't properly constructed. They don't have a waist-stay so they just tighten the heck out of the top band and this creates a upper boob muffin top on even the thinnest of women. BOOO!!
