Ok, so I embroidered this sweatshirt for my mother with a cute cat doing yoga. It was a cheap green sweatshirt for 20 bucks (Hanes) and some of the green from the sweatshirt came through the embroidery. Not a lot but for as much as this machine is, it should be 100% professional looking. Now is it because it was a cheap sweatshirt or do I need to make some kind of adjust to make the stitches closer???

I don't know that the machine was necessarily the problem. Sounds like you may have needed a top stabilizer if its a sweatshirt or that the design didn't suit the fabric. Sometimes it's bad digitizing too many variables.

Look at the stitch count, check what type of stabilizer you are using. Sew it out again on a cotton scrap at a test. Then you should get a good idea of where its at

Sewington,
There are alot of variables in stitching out a design. Design quality can vary quite a bit. There is probably not much difference in how one machine stitches as compared to another given that the threads on top and bottom are the appropriate for the design and the upper and lower tensions are correctly adjusted. Almost all fabrics require some stabilizer or topping for the best stitch out. And even then the stabilizer has to be matched to the fabric and the design. The needle used can also make a difference. I have a Bernina 830 and have been consistantly happy with it. It stitches fast. It is easy for me to place my designs. I am able to match up motifs very easily for multiple hooping jobs. The list goes on! A good book on machine embroidery or a few classes with your machine should help you to appreciate your machine. The stitch density can be changed using most embroidery software. Or, you can also adjust the density thru the embroidery module. See page 148 of the Bernina 830 manual.
