No sleeves! Is this the new 'cost' cut?

Date: 2/9/13 7:58 PM I was doing a little 'browser window shopping' and I noticed that nothing for women, except jackets seem to have real sleeves anymore. None of the tops/dresses have sleeves, except for maybe a few billowy, cut-on sleeves. Even things for early-spring or winter! And instead of shaping, lots of drawstring waists. Date: 2/9/13 9:49 PM I like the styles that they have. After loosing weight I'm reconstructing my wardrobe piece by piece. Several tops with tight sleeves are now sleeveless shells, a couple knit skirts turned into color blocked tops with cut on sleeves. If these styles stay in for a while it should help reduce fabric stash, after all not much effort required to cut 2 rectangle pieces with a neckline shaping, serge and roll hem. Helps prevent the UFO's from pilling up. As far as paying the $$ cost of RTW ------ Janome10001, Babylock ESG3, Brother ULT 2001, White 634D serger, Pfaff 1472, Singer featherweight, Singer 14T957Dc, Bernina FunLock 009DCC coverlock, Brother PQ1500S, Janome CP900.

They do not bother with those things anymore...It seems in order to have a proper fit, lining, etc. I have to go to high-end seamstress-dressmaker that is insanely expensive $$$$.... I am back to my sewing machine - sewing more and better. May be one day I will be ready to make a Chanel style fitted jacket... with a collar.... ------ Irina Grace English is my Second Language

Date: 2/10/13 8:03 AM I get so tired of the clothing companies and their executives singing the blues because they don't have enough money to make something decent. And for all the exorbitant prices they charge, only to sit back and live in expensive homes, drive expensive cars, etc., while we consumers of their product have to drive klunkers, etc., it's ridiculous. Talk about someone wanting to make a buck! They probably make more in a given year than the last US Presidential election campaign contributions. I remember when unlined jackets first came out. They were the pits! Rode up on your sleeves, off grain, didn't fit right, etc. But the clothing companies made it sound special--like wearing an unlined jacket was the thing for summer. Yeah, right. This is the one reason why I make my clothing. I don't give a hoot if I have to look "in style", if being "in style" shows a lack of design, fabric, etc. I prefer my own style to "look in." Thankfully I haven't been in a clothing store for myself since I went on the making me own clothes for a year. I did purchase dd some nice shirts Ls & ss from Cabelas on sale. They fit well, not tight, and wash well each week and last several years. (my minimum requirements) Also they don't look like they were thrown together. Keep sewing. I am being forced to lost weight or sewing for myself this spring as my clothes choices in my closet are slim right now............and I refuse to spend $ on something I can make better at home. ------ There is no easy way! quote from my Grandfather Sharing is caring! Date: 2/10/13 10:26 AM If you don't like the clothes in your local stores, stop shopping and start sewing. As far as sewing inspiration goes, you can still find hundreds or thousands of beautiful garments with long, set in sleeves on the high end snoop shopping websites like Saks and Neiman's. If you shop for fabric carefully and your sewing skills are up to the task, you can recreate almost anything you want for a tiny fraction of the RTW cost. ------ The essence of life is statistical improbability on a colossal scale.
