Date: 2/10/13 1:39 PM I took a week of from work (Carnaval was going to give us a 3-day workweek anyway) and intend to sew.
I just traced top 107 from the January Manequim no 645 which is a sleeveless, A-line, front cowl with partial standing collar at the back neckline.
Disclaimer: I have a little over a year of issues but have only made 1 skirt from them.
My problem is that I have no idea what the back length is on Manequim patterns. It isn't given in the size chart, only the front waist length which is 1cm longer than a Burda Petite size 19 (my "perfect" size)
The instructions say "Modelo com 16cm de comprimento a partir da cintura" (16cm/6in1/4? below the waist)
When I mark the waist up from the CB hem and add the back yoke, thereby reconstructing the full back piece, I end up with 48cm/18+in!!!
Ok, all this blablabla to ask if anyone knows the back length (nape to waist), bust depth (shoulder to bust point) and hip depth (waist to hip) measurements for Manequim.
Their designs are so complex most of the time that I cannot find, among my stash of issues, basic models I could use to try and figure this out.
I even tried another pattern and got a disturbing 33cm/13in for the back length of size 40 (almost a Burda 38/Petite 19)!!!

Date: 2/10/13 2:04 PM I don't know what the back length is suppose to be but you could always take one of your Burda back pattern pieces and lay it over the Manequim pattern piece. ------ Ada

I cut out the blouse without alterations because I worry about it coming out too short (remember the front length is already shorter than a Burda Petite in my "perfect" size)------ Fashion Maté, where I blog about what I (eventually) sew : http://fashionmate.blogspot.com

What's my size?
Don't their patterns tell you what size they are supposed to be? Which size is this pattern? |

Date: 2/10/13 5:31 PM Hum, maybe I should clarify the problem:
The Manequim size chart only give the front length (shoulder, over bust, to waist) and NO back length.
I tried logic and math and compared two T. 40 blouse patterns and each gave me dramatically different back length measurements.
Why am I insisting on this, you ask?
I am only 1m53/5' tall. I usually have to remove length above AND below the waist in most commercial patterns (Burda, BMVK etc.)
I hesitate to fold out any length in the bodice above the waist because:
a) the given bodice length for the size I should fit (almost), T. 40, is already SHORTER than the front length of a similar size Burda Petite ie the patterns I practically do not alter at all.
b) the waist is not marked on the pattern;
See the problem? Altering in the dark, here...
I just tried on the top I was making. It is like a tunic on me and I am disappointed in the cowl: seems much higher than in the photos. I suspect the model is either wearing a larger size than she would or they used a seriously drapy fabric (if not a lightweight knit!)
Hopefully, someone who is very familiar with Manequim will have some input.
Note that I had tried emailing them in the past with these very measurement questions and I guess they did not understand because I am still wondering... ------ Fashion Maté, where I blog about what I (eventually) sew : http://fashionmate.blogspot.com

Subject: Manequims Mystery Measurements Date: 2/10/13 5:42 PM I have no familiarity with Manequim, but "a partir de" doesn't mean below, it means "starting from". Not sure this helps at all... ------ Yards sewn 2012: 34
