How does ITY fare in the summer? Does it make you hot and sweaty? We are going to the beach in August and I want to make some cute dresses and tops, but wasn't sure how ITY was in the summer. I am really just learning how to sew with knits, and I love this fabric and how it doesn't wrinkle. Next time I find a sale, I am hoping to stock up! TIA!

I don't mind it in summer, although if it is really hot and muggy, I will wear linen, or a technical wicking fabric, like pro-cool. Make sure it is an ITY though because other polys are not so nice to wear with the exception of the technical fabrics.

Can you suggest a source for the tech fabrics you mentioned?
TIA

I have found the ITY to be comfortable until about 88 and muggy, after that it's cotton and above 95 and muggy linen only.

I wear ITY knits all year round.

I have bought technical fabrics from Fabric.com. They were a mixed bag of quality. If I needed more (and I will) I would buy from the new owners of Wazoodle. They have many pro-cool fabrics. There are other places that sell active/outdoor wear. The Rain Shed Inc. sells Powerdry from Malden mills, which would probably be the best quality technical wicking fabrics available to the home sewist.
You might check the Malden Mills outlet store. www.milldirecttextiles.com (former employees of the Malden Mill factory)
FYI. Many of these technical fabrics are highly stretchy. (they are very comfortable though) The first time I wore them I felt naked!

I hate to be the decenting vote, but I really don't care for ITY knits. JMHO They lure me in with the easy care and beautiful colors and prints. They leave me cold in the winter (below freezing) and too warm when it is over 60F. Fabricmartfabrics.com is a great place to find them.NAYY They are having a sale now, so their stock may be a bit depleted. I forgot to add that I can wear them if I line them with a rayon/lycra lining.

For a good selection of technical fabrics, call Annette at Rose City Textiles in Portland, OR. Their website isn't all that friendly but Annette is a great help and will send swatches. I need to call her for some lightweight wicking knits for a trip to Cuba in May.

Thanks for the tips ladies. We are in PA where it has been really hot and muggy the past few years. I will take that into consideration when choosing which patterns to sew. I think i will look for linen and cotton sales as well.

I don't care what anyone else says, I don't wear it. I find it hot in the summer and clammy in the winter.
