Date: 2/11/13 9:54 AM In my quest to knock off this JCrew sweater, I have been searching for sew on or glue on gemstones. I really want some charcoal gray stones and the only ones I can find are these. My plan is to cut my collar shape out of felt and then glue these on. How well does craft glue stick to felt? I have never done this before. I would really prefer sew on gemstones, but I can only find them in clear and jet black. Thanks.
Actually, I am almost tempted to just buy a Peter Pan collar necklace like this one. It would probably be about the same cost as me purchasing rhinestones, glue, and taking the time to construct the collar.

Date: 2/11/13 10:30 AM If you are going to use glue, use a glue specific for gluing on crystals/gemstones. Most craft glues won't withstand laundering.
I use Aleene's Jewel It for all my skating, dance, gymnastics and bodybuilding items. It works very well and stands up to machine washing (inside a mesh bag) as long as you give it sufficient cure time. Always hang to dry -- they are not meant to be put in a dryer.
There is also E6000 which is a faster drying and curing glue but I find the fumes hard to handle so don't use it. I've tried it but it set off an asthma attack.

Date: 2/11/13 10:42 AM I use Aleene's Jewel-it for ballgowns at it works very well. I have never used it on felt, though. E6000 works extremely well but is nasty to work with smell-wise. It is industrial strength!
I get stones from The Rhinestone Guy (NAYY) in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Larger stones do need to be sewed on, but gluing is very quick and easy once you get the technique figured out.

Date: 2/13/13 1:34 PM I have found Beadsfactory.com to have the best prices, but you have to buy somewhat bulk (I think 10 gross is the smallest number of flat backs they sell). They have a lot of sew on as well.
I also use Preciosa over Swarvoski due to price. I stone my own skating costumes, and the sparkle is the same as far as I can tell. I've used them side by side when I have Swarvoski and you can't tell the difference. Preciosa is still high quality, just without the name brand recognition.
I haven't used hot fix. I run my costumes through the washing machine and E6000 holds! I do agree with others that it has to be used in a well vented area. I haven't tried the Eileens.
