Date: 2/12/13 12:30 PM Last week I taped an episode of "Sewing with Nancy" where the guest was embellishing sweatshirt-ponchos with ribbons and trim sewn in random stripes. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
One of the things she demonstrated was a new-to-me method of folding fabric for bias tape. She started the normal way--folding one corner down to make a square--but then she made a couple of other folds that sort of ended up looking like an envelope, then cut the strips. It looked like the strips were much longer than you normally get with non-continuous bias... but I stopped watching at that point, and then foolishly deleted the episode!
I would love to see the rest of this technique, if it sounds familiar to anybody.
Thanks! ------ ~Gem in the prairie |

1 member likes this. Date: 2/12/13 12:51 PM I think I saw that too. I wish Nancy did more on tailoring and fitting, rather than these out-of-the-box, over-the-top embellishments, but that's just me. That tee-shirt-turned-shrug--weird.
Anyway, you can watch the episodes here.
The folding method was a shortcut to cutting longer strips, I think. Good idea.

I haven't had time to watch any of the videos yet, but Goodworks, the correct "Sewing With Nancy" episode should be "Embellishing Outside the Box Part I."
Elona, I'll check those out, too.
I would love it if someone had an old-fashioned photo tutorial; I forget things I see in video (or real life) too quickly! ------ ~Gem in the prairie |

Date: 2/13/13 6:28 AM Now I remember why I don't watch this. Do you have to donate or something to get the videos to run? Flash is up to date so not sure what else the issue is.

Subject: Help! Saw new folding method for bias tape on Sewing With Nancy Date: 2/13/13 5:55 PM There's an Indian method called a "bias bag", which you can see here: http://www.your-pk.com/chuddidar payjama.htm
It's a little hard to understand at first but if you actually try to make one, it will magically come together and you'll have a big rectangular piece of bias fabric, with some seams going through it.
