I have some puckering in this skirt in the front. Also, the back of the skirt (cut in two parts) don't quite line up with the front of the skirt. I'm assuming I went too far on my seam allowance joining the back pieces.

Also, I cut a size 18 before having an understanding of ease and that I probably needed a size 16, graded down to a 14 through the hips.

At any rate, do I need to just undo it or can I fix the puckering?

I sewed a ponte(?) knit shirt. It's a slippery, somewhat shiny fabric that I got from Hancocks. Anyway, I used a zig-zag stitch with medium with and a stitch length of ~2. My stitches are randomly coming undone. Suggestions??

Would you be able to post a picture of the problem?
For the stitching I am wondering if you used the wrong needle. Sometimes I have needed a stretch needle instead of ballpoint or universal on knits.

If the stitches are pulling out, the needle may be in wrong.

If the stitches are skipping, then a stretch needle may resolve the problem.

I don't have a Flickr or anything and don't see how to imbed photos in the message...I might just have to start an account and post some pics when I get home.

I did use ball point needles. I didn't see 'stretch' needles in my local JoAnns. Maybe I need to order online or get them from specialty sewing shop??

My JoAnn's has Schemtz stretch needles. They must be popular though as my JA's runs out of the sizes I want. I prefer stretch needles for most knits. The other thing is that if you can reduce foot pressure that might help with the puckering as well. I always need to adjust pressure when sewing knits or light wovens. I am not sure why the stitches are popping-I might try a little longer stitch and a little narrower zigzag. HTH

If your local JA store is out of stock, a local sewing machine dealer may have the stretch type needles. Also, if there is a Viking kiosk at JA they also sell SM needles. They don't have to be Schmetz brand.

I found some stretch needles at Hancock's (they're having 50% off notions by the way!! )

I will use those tips Marie367.

One other thing that I thought of this afternoon. Do you have a walking foot? That might help too. I was in Hancock's tonight and almost bought some of the knit but ended up with something else. I hope these tips will work.
