Currently, members can get Butterick and McCalls patterns for 99 cents, Vogues for $2.99, and Kwik Sews for $4.99 from now until Friday. If I buy about 25 Buttericks/McCalls and about 5 Vogues in a year, is it worth paying the membership fee and shipping fees?

I think it depends on how easily you can find good pattern sales locally. I don't keep on top of what's on sale where right now so the BMV is handy for me. In fact, I think I subliminally caused this sale since I was wanting a Butterick pattern in a different size but, of course, didn't want to pay full price. ;-) Others have joined because they can't find the specific patterns they want in their local sources. Club BVM works for me because it makes me think twice about buying a pattern.

I have to drive a few miles to JoAnns. Sometimes the smaller and closer store doesn't have the size needed which means another several miles to a second store.

More importantly, it keeps me out of the fabric store and away from buying a chunk of fabric I really don't need.

For me, it's either a wash or to my benefit.

It is definitely worth it in Ontario. The cost of patterns at our major chain, Fabricland, has gone up the past two years and they rarely have pattern sales anymore, and when they do the prices are still high ... I think the cheapest I've noticed recently was about $7.75. This 99/$2.99 is pretty amazing by comparison, even factoring in shipping. If I purchase 2 patterns I'd come ahead, never mind even! The sales for BMV members come up very often, so if I want something I don't have to wait very long for the next sale.

I got my membership when it was on sale for $9.99, and it has been well worth it for me. For example, this morning I ordered two Kwik Sew patterns, which were on sale for $4.99 each. If I'd bought them at JoAnn's I would have paid $11.99 each for them. That savings alone was worth more than what my membership cost. The other factor for me is the fact that I have to drive at least forty-five minutes to get to JoAnn's for a pattern sale, and there's no guarantee that the patterns/sizes I want will be in stock after I get there. I still do buy sale patterns at JoAnn's, but I'm really glad I also have the BMV membership.

Same here. I was doubtful at first, but my Joann's is also some 45 minutes away--if the traffic is clear.

Shipping costs are a factor, though. With Club BMV, the shipping charges seem to change, and right now it's $8 for four patterns (!), adding two bucks to the actual cost of each one.

My elderly Prius gets around 42mpg, so it would cost me a little over two gallons for 'shipping costs" if I were to drive.

So on this particular sale, the cost of driving vs club membership would be a wash, as far as I'm concerned. For Kwik Sew, which is almost never on sale, it's a little different.

If I were interested in these patterns, it would probably depend on my mood and how hot I was to get the patterns this very day as opposed to waiting.

It is for me...no driving, parking, no handling the gross pattern books that everyone sneezes on and their kiddies drool over.
I usually buy a dozen or so at every sale. So for less than $50 (i.e. if I get 12 Vogues) I've saved my time, sanity, and probably health. LOL

I am considering joining, if Joann is going to limit the maximum price of their sale patterns. I mostly buy Vogue, often designer patterns, and most of those would be excluded from the Joann sales under the new policy. Buying just one $30+ pattern at a special sale price would make up the subscription cost...

For me it's worth it too. My Hancocks and Joann's are 40 minutes away too and I stopped going for pattern sales long ago. Some of the patterns I wanted to buy were always already gone and that was so irritating. Now I can sit at home and buy what I want when Club BMV or PR or Simplicity has a sale. It saves me alot of time and it's much less stress that way. Yes, there's shipping but still my time is worth that cost.

I wrote to Jo-Ann's about the new price limits. She told me that for the next 5 for $5 Simplicity sale which I think starts Friday it was actually a misprint and all patterns up to $18.95 ( the most expensive simplicty) are included.
