wardrobe patterns mix and match wardrobe patterns... do they exist?

Can anyone help me? I have recently lost a great deal of weight, but am budget-challenged! I want to create clothing that is mix and match so as to get the biggest bang for my buck and make my new wardrobe stretch to meet all my needs. I live in Florida, so it is important to have layering pieces that are casual but could be dressy enough for church or dinner out with my husband. Does anyone have any ideas that might help? I'm pretty sure patterns you described are available but I don't know any off the top of my head. People usually have great pattern recommendations so it will be fun to read the replies you'll get to your question. Since you said you were budget challenged (me too - I feel your pain!) Date: 2/14/13 7:32 PM There are definitely wardrobe patterns, Vogue has several. But, at sale price and the regularity of their sales, buying patterns is the cheapest part of sewing. There are wardrobe concepts, like the 11 piece SWAP, sewing with a plan that Australian Stitch magazine, not sure of the name, published some years ago. A basic set would or could include, 1 jacket, 4 bottoms and 6 tops or blouses all designed to work together. One way to do it is to pick a print for a top and bottom and then take the colors from that for the rest of the pieces. There are lots of ways to do it, but in the end you get a lot of possible combinations and more bang for your buck. ------ www.nancyksews.blogspot.com

Date: 2/15/13 10:06 AM In my opinion, the first thing you need to do is decide on the colours that you will use, and not buy fabric outside of the decision! Therefore even if it is on sale it is not going to blend well with your new wardrobe. Especially in it's "infancy". Have fun, as a clean slate is so great for creativity. Pam

It comes with some great patterns for the petite plus woman. After losing a lot of weight, you may not need that kind of pattern but the book was also filled with advice on how to build your wardrobe using a mix of solids, patterns, and textures. Even if you don't need the patterns, I would check the book out at your local library just for the wardrobe building advice alone since you said you were on a limited budget. It could help you make wiser choices in fabrics for a mix-and-match wardrobe. -- Edited on 2/16/13 5:17 PM --
