I just got my pfaff 1471. I have not got my manual yet. The word battery comes across the screen. Im guessing I need a new battery. Anyone know how to get the cover to it open? I dont want to brake it. And will I loose info when I change it. The cover said to read instructions before replacing them. Is there something I need to know?

you only need the battery for using the digitized embroidery unit, otherwise you can sew away.

anyone know how to get the battery cover off. And is there anything I need to know about doing it? My manual is not here yet.

Ok, I have been sewing with it. But I will go ahead and change them. Who knows how long they have been there.

I have the 1475 but I am going to assume that the info will be the same. If "battery" is displayed continuously then you need new batteries (it probably will be in 4 differenet languages). You still may be able to use the machine (untill the batteries die).

What my manual says: "Switch on the machine so that the memories are not lost when the batteries are changed and tilt the machine over backwards. A battery compartment is installed in the base. Lift cover B at the catches in recesses A and remove cover. Take out the batteries. Insert new batteries with the plus (+) facing upwards.

"Replace cover B so that hinges C engage in recesses D and press cover until it snaps into place.

"After changing the batteries, check the contents of the memories.

"Replacement batteries: 2 Mignon cells 1.5V, type LR6 "

Since you aren't the one who put things in memory and if you don't care what's in them, then you don't need to turn on the machine first, but you will lose what's stored in the memories.

Basically just be careful so you don't break any hinges but removing the little cover is pretty much like removing the cover on a remote or other items. You will need 2 AA batteries. Once you put in new ones, you won't need to change them for a long time.

I have not yet begun to procrastinate

Update: soon I will decide when I will begin procrastinating.

You won't loose anything of yours at all. So you don't even need the machine plugged in to change the battery at all. And it cannot make you loose anything of machine firmware or that of your own personal stuff that you have saved into your P memories or M memories, because you have not saved anything into there either ever, as you just got the machine. If you have personally combined some stitches together and saved them in some memory bank in the machine (by one of several means) like at the machine or with the old Pfaff PC-Designer software and then sent into the machines M or P memories down a serial cable, then I guess by taking batteries out, with machine unplugged, you might loose that just the combination you had made, but you could always put it in again, the same way you got it into there in the first place.

Just checked mine, as I had been bad, and not done that for years. I did use a ball point pen point to pry up the little compartment cover on bottom of my machine for that. In one of the two indentations in the plastic there. You don't want to try to pry up the opposite side of that cover with no indentations next to it instead, as under the side without the two indentations in it, is instead plastic tabs, that could break off instead. I don't think running with a dead battery or no battery will make any difference though, as long as you are not saving anything to your P or M memory banks there at all though.

Thank you all very much. I got it off thanks to your directions. I thought I might find crusty old batteries but there was none in there at all. So its all good. I love this machine and I am going to love this web sight.

Then, e-mails were written on paper and put in weird paper things called envelopes and the postal system delivered them. This was slow. Finally, e-mail as we know it came around."
