Joann's Ponte vs. PonteRoma Knits

I was about to order some that was on sale for $5.59/yd yesterday, many great colors, then saw it was regularly only 7.99 as it was all polyester vs. the ponte roma (ponte di roma?) that's a blend that I've used. I don't remember seeing/feeling a poly only version in the stores. Has anyone used the poly only version, if so for what, what did you think vs. the blend? Thanks!

Subject: Joanns Ponte vs. PonteRoma Knits Date: 2/19/13 12:06 PM The all poly ponte is what they use for cheerleading costumes. It resemebles the old fashioned polyester double knit. It holds the color, that's why it's often used for uniforms. It's rather stiff and doesn't compare to the ponte roma. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

Date: 2/20/13 0:38 AM The Ponte de Roma that JA's sells that is not the "all polyester" type is composed of 58% Polyester/40% Rayon/2% Spandex. It feels really nice to work with and comes in a variety of colors, but will eventually pill. If you go to extremes in taking care of it (dry clean only or machine wash delicate and dry flat), it may hold up better. I've washed and dried (inside out) using the delicate cycles and have managed to get pilling, even though small, but noticeable to me. ------ Judy

Date: 2/20/13 4:08 AM Yup, the all poly type isn't my favorite... I have 2 yards of it, but I doubt I'll ever use it. It's scratchy and doesn't drape the way the ponte roma does. I always make sure there is some rayon before I order ponte!

I have used the blend on a couple things that do not get frequent laundering so now I'm worried about pilling. What other sources have you found for good quality for this fabric? I had a store that had a great color selection of real Sophia knit but not nearby anymore. Thanks!

I just ordered 2 colors of Sophia knit from Vogue Fabrics and they have about 10 colors in stock and delivery charge is only $6.00 for entire shipping.

I've tried quite a few...they sew up great and continue to maintain their good look.
