coat buttonholes combination of machine and bound buttonhole?

It is like a melton in that it doesn't ravel. My machine cannot make a good buttonhole through 2 layers - outside and facing. However it does make a good keyhole button through 1 layer of wool and interfacing. If I made a machine buttonhole on the outside of the coat do you think I could treat the the facing side of the buttonhole like you would for a bound buttonhole? I'm reluctant to do a bound buttonhole because the fabric has a definite nap to it and I'm afraid the edges of the buttonhole would not wear well. Any suggestions?

In Claire Schaeffer's Chanel jacket pattern, I believe the instructions are to make a handworked buttonhole on the outside (did not work for me!) and then do a faux-bound buttonhole with the lining.

It was not even my question but I am also at the buttonhole stage of a chenile jacket. Actually I'm using upolstery fabric. I too was concerned, that my machine would not go through all the layers neatly and I'd not be happy, with my buttonholes. And, that I'd mess up the nap.
