I'm in the market for a lower end machine for classes etc, and came across a couple of Janome machines on the HSN sewing machine page that I haven't seen before, can anyone tell me anything about them ?

I see 4 of them. They are variations that are currently in Janome's lineup but with a change of color and the addition of "New Home" under the Janome name. Sigh...I wished they had changed the graphics or color on the Janome Heavy-Duty Sewing Machine(which we know as the DC4030).

There will be an intro next week and I'm sure there will be temporarily reduced prices, at least I'd hope so. Still, the DC4030 is $50 less than other places online, plus all those bonus feet and you're set!

I called Janome customer support and asked about service/support during the warranty period on these machines. They said to call them and if the machine needed adjustments or repairs you would have to send it to their headquarters in New Jersey. I personally can't stand the two women who answer the phone there. They're like two peas in a pod and are not entirely friendly. No "I can help you with that" in their voice at all.

If at all possible, I recommend buying a sm from a dealer, who will give you basic know-how classes and support.

Check hsn program guide. There will be two shows on the 26th to demo the machines. Hsn offers 30 day money back guarantee so you can send it back. During shows they usually offer free shipping. I will be fun to watch th shows even though I won't be buying this time around.

As for sending any machine to the NJ headquarters -- Good Luck with that. I live about 20 minutes from the Janome HQ and when my Janome needed a minor warranty repair, they told me if I showed up they would not let me in the building. I was to find a local dealer to do the repair. However, since I bought my machine online, not one of those local dealers would consider doing warranty repairs. I had to send my machine to the online merchant (at my cost) who then sent it to New Jersey and then shipped it back to them and then I had to pay the return shipping to me in New Jersey.

Janome makes a quality product but their customer is the dealer -- not the consumer.

I would never buy another Janome product ever!

If you are looking for a quality low-end machine, consider Juki 27Z or 35Z. The lowest prices are on Amazon. These are quality machines with great features.
