I don't want to take a ton of clothes. I will not have to take any formal clothes as business attire will be maximum formal at any time. I will appreciate any ideas or suggestions you might have. Thanks! |

There are many ideas here for co-ordinating items, suitable for cruising. The styles and prints may not be everyone's cup of tea though.
If you like exercising or walking, take the appropriate clothing.
Just over a year ago, we enjoyed a 7 day Disney cruise to Mexico. The dress was casual with one formal night. Passengers with ample luggage allowance took splendid evening dresses. Those of us struggling with weeks away and one luggage allowance, took things like my basic dress pants, heels and an evening type, uncrushable top.
Oh & sun cream/hat.
Enjoy your cruise ------ Vonne šOš Brisbane Australia

Date: 2/23/13 0:09 AM Cruisecritic.com has as much good info about cruising as PR does about sewing (although people are exponentially nicer/happier here). They'll be able to guide you on what to make, what worked, that sort of thing. -- Edited on 2/23/13 0:09 AM -- |

Date: 2/23/13 6:17 PM Make a simple black dress from slinky. Choose a design that can make it a skirt, top, dress-- you can put elastic at top and some hidden loops to loop through a bias tube/tie that can wrap as a halter or spaghetti straps- or make 2 pieces. Slinky should not wrinkle and travels very well and black goes with everything everywhere. Wear this with a pashima that can double as a shawl, blanket, etc. I had a friend who wore a black wool sleeveless sheath mini dress across Europe, I had purchased it at a thrift store, she borrowed it and asked if I didn't mind she took it with her. She wore it with jackets, tights, leggings, pants/jeans, button down tops, tshirts under and over it, cardigans etc. Trips abroad are so exciting. Carolyn has some lovely items blogged when she has taken vacations--Handmade by Carolyn
edited to add-- I linked her page and she is wearing a dress in the exact style of the black dress I described! -- Edited on 2/23/13 6:18 PM -- |

Date: 2/23/13 9:18 PM thank you all - some great ideas and sites. I do want to keep it simple and light. The hat on Carolyn's site is exactly the type hat I want. |

Date: 2/23/13 10:57 PM Black, black, and black. Italians wear a LOT of black. You cannot go wrong with it, and fortunately, black comes in all weights. In May, it could be pretty darn warm in Rome, but with lightweight silk, bias-cut linen, and a few Pashmina or Pashmina/silk scarves (ebay has good sources), you're in business. |
