I see that NN has mylar for use with embroidery. How is it used? I am for some bling this year.

It is really easy to use. You should use a design that is made for mylar or one that is not very dense so the mylar will show through and create an iridescent effect. You place a piece of mylar on top of your design area, stitch around the outline, and then remove your hoop with the design attached and tear or cut away the part that extends beyond the design and then do the embroidery -- kind of like an applique. When it is done, you can use tweezers to remove any mylar that remains beyond the design. You can use the mylar gift wrap or buy mylar that is designed for embroidery.

You really don't need a lot of colors. I used a pearl color that looked like an opal with pinkish streaks and embroidered some dinosaurs in green and brown. The mylar picks up the color of the threads.

If you put in mylar embroidery in a search engine, you will find samples of embroidery and designs.

I embroidered flowers with mylar. When I was done I took a soldering iron and just run the barrel of it along the outside of design very quickly....instead of cutting it out. I get great results. I also use Rayon thread when I do it.
