Blogs What do you use yours for?

Others somehow get paid for links (to advertise others' websites). I also know there are a lot of free blog sites available making this easier (to upload pictures, design pages, etc.). If they allow advertising (and I have no idea if they do - but why would that be any different then those links) - does anyone advertise/sell their own projects on their blog? What is the difference between having a website and a blog? The only thing I can think of is there is a lot more freedom on a website. Please advise. Thanks!

Wordpress won't let you use adsense but you may post affiliate links. I use my sewing blog mainly as a place to upload photos. I'd love to do more with it; I'm just slammed. I use another blog to upload our family recipes. This is helpful as I can access them no matter where I'm at (and Wordpress automatically scales for a mobile site. It's great to easily access my mom's lasagna recipe from the grocery store for example.) I use a self-hosted Wordpress blog for my business site/blog which is a simple software program that lets you see how you've allocated the money in your checkbook (for example, if you know some of the money is for the mortgage, groceries, etc. but you want to know how much you have available to spend on fabric, etc. I'm linking here in case you want to see how a self-hosted Wordpress site may look. You can configure a self-hosted blog to look like a static web page, a blog, or anything inbetween. ------ Mary http://checkmatesystem.com

Wouldn't it be safer to have a program on your computer? I'm asking because I honestly don't know the answers.

Blogs get higher ratings, and faster, than a regular site. Google loves blogs. :) And you most certainly can sell via a wordpress blog. Blogs are easier to manage (IMO). And blogs can make some serious money. I putz around on mine and mine has earned over $1,000 this year already. (Go take a look - I don't have time to do much with it.... lol) I put blogs up for other people. There are tricks to it... but if you play it right, you can have a nice place to post pics, vent a little... have fun... and make a few bucks if that's desirable to you. ------ nightowlsally.com On my radar someday: Babylock Serger, and some machine for travel.
