Talk to me about rayon/poly gabardine

I'm familiar with wool and wool blend gabs, but not 100% synthetic ones. What can you fabric gurus tell me about it? Does it look synthetic? Is it very washable and stain-resistant? (I am also snatching up some of the rayon/wool blends, but am on the fence about the rayon/poly.) ------ ~Gem in the prairie

If so, they are the beloved RPL that many people like to use for pants. It has just a bit of give and doesn't bag out like some fabrics with more lycra will. Some of it looks great -- like a wool blend -- and some has a bit of a sheen (not a p-lus in my estimation). Haven't used any from Denver Fabrics so no first hand experience here. ------ Patti R-r-r-ripping my way to fitting success

I know what RPL should look like, from RTW dress pants. But minus the Lycra, I'm sort of stumped. They also have some poly/wool gabs, but I'm not sure how they'll wash. I'm actually looking at this for muddy-day re-enactment garb. I don't mind having a little synthetic content, if it means increased washability--but it still has to LOOK right. (It's hard to get ground-in pawprints out of 100% wool.) ------ ~Gem in the prairie

Often I need to make the pants a bit smaller because of the stretch, and it is real important to stabilize the crotch seam. The RPLs I have used vary in their look. Some look like regular fabric. The ones I buy from Nancy Erickson have a sort of crepe look to them. I notice that I often need to use my walking foot when I sew these fabrics, because of the lycra. It's like sewing a knit. Definitely see about getting some samples. Rayon is a natural fiber and breathes. A lot of RPLs are really PRLs, but we here at PR generically call them RPLs.
