I need some help, I have a "stitch master" deluxe automatic zig-zag machine (from Japan, uses pattern cams) that will not produce an even length stitch in straight or zig-zag mode. It seems the fabric is getting stuck on the feed dogs but I don't think that is it. I would be very grateful for any help and or suggestions. I would like to get this beautiful machine working right. It is so pretty and shows almost no signs of use. Which as I am typing this may be a sign that this is an issue since new......

I want to mention that this happens on only one layer of flannel, cotton or corduroy. I have not tried more than one layer of anything.

Since you never sew on one layer of fabric, always test on two.

That said, a lot of the Japanese machines have a lever to raise or lower the feed dogs, and some even have three settings. Make sure the feed dogs are set on the highest setting.

Thanks for the tip on the feed dogs. I will try again with feed dogs high and 2 layers and report back.
