Date: 3/1/13 5:21 PM My daughter was given this super cute dress for her birthday, and I'd really love to recreate the skirt for myself. I THINK it's a chiffon-type material, with lots of pleats. It swings so nicely and it does have a lining underneath. It's polyester.
I went to Jo-Ann's and just tried browsing around for anything that felt similar, but had no luck. To make pleats like that, wouldn't I need to be able to press well? I can't see that happening with poly anything  Am I just out of luck recreating this for myself? Dress here

Date: 3/1/13 5:34 PM Izybel, could you get a different fabric and make the skirt, iron set the pleats in yourself first and then take it to a dry cleaners and see if they will steam set the pleats in for you? CALL THE OWNER and find out BEFOR you go to the expense of buying the fabric.
Remember this dress was made overseas where the pleats WERE steam set in.... ------

Date: 3/2/13 2:26 AM There are businesses that permanently press pleats in lengths of fabric for you, I have an idea that it's not particularly cheap and I have no idea where in the US you'd be able to get it done. ------

Date: 3/2/13 4:49 AM It may not help you, but you can buy already pleated fabric in the Asian fabric stores here in Australia. Maybe scout around and see if you have any nearby? ------

 1 member likes this. Pre-pleated fabric is often called "plisse" (with the appropriate accent over the E, plisse is French for pleated). I searched with that and turned up one or two fabrics. ------

Also, maybe consider some home decor fabric [might be easier to find and cheaper], and since it is a skirt you want to make from it, it will be okay to make it from a fabric that may not be too breathable. |

Someone on PR used this skirt for the bottom half of a Marilyn Monroe costume. It was the white halter dress Marilyn wore. I remembered it when I read your request. I feel sure it will be perfect to use in a dress like your daughter has. So many colors to choose from too!

In your case I would just think of that skirt as 'fabric' because you'd be using it to make a dress and not wearing it as is. ------
