The sleeves have two pieces, not mentioned in the instructions. And even when sewn together they don't fit right into the armseye, and they're huge. I fit 'em in anyway, and hem the sleeves very aggressively.
Later I look at the pattern and realize I was using the sleeve pieces from the robe (which I'd forgotten this pattern had) rather than the top & nightgown sleeve piece. Sigh. (Trying to plow through some stash, and I guess I'm being a little more hasty than conditions call for.)
I discovered today that there are upwards of 30 reviews for this pattern (generally quite good, so a look at them earlier would have made it plain that the confusion was on my end). And now the question: Should I write reviews for patterns that already have dozens of reviews? I've made several really popular ones. Is it worth it because people will like to see how something makes up in different colors and weights of fabric, or how it appears on different (esp. plus size) bodies? ------ Jeanne

Date: 3/3/13 10:57 AM Yes, please write up a review. I see 2 real benefits from yours:
1. As you said, just showing it in a different fabric on a different body is useful, and
2. You used the wrong sleeve pieces and someone else might remember your story if she has problems to check that she cut out the right pieces (even if it's for a totally different pattern/problem)

I will also read every review, although when I don't have time, I read the most recent, and try to tell by the titles of the reviews if it has caused problems. If I see any titles that are less than "highly recommend", I'll make sure and read those.
But the reviews and photos are so helpful! I love it when someone makes something out of an unexpected material, too! It has saved me so much money, as a beginner, because I don't have to do all those experiments myself! |

Date: 3/3/13 12:43 PM I look through all the reviews for a pattern. It's good to see everyone's opinions/interpretations/issues with the pattern and gives you a great overall view. |

Before cutting, it helps me if I circle, or check the pattern pieces/letters of the pieces I will need. I then go through the instructions and circle or check which ones will apply to my selected view/version of the pattern.
Saves a lot of frustration and stitch removal.

I thought of another reason to go ahead--most patterns have multiple views, so "35 reviews" overall might obscure the fact that there are only a handful of reviews of the view you're making. For instance, last year I attempted the non-pintucked version of S3786 . Only a few of the 43 reviews are of that version. It didn't go so well (so I'm going to try the pintucked one then finally write the 44th, or 45th, or so, review). ------ Jeanne
