I am considering getting a side cutter foot for my Brother (XR9500PRW). I was curious if anyone has experience with this attachment and if it is worth buying. At the moment I finish my seams with the overcast foot and stitch.

Any other specialty feet you have been glad you bought?

Thanks!

I haven't used this foot, but asked the dealer where I bought my Brother SM about it. He didn't recommend it, said it doesn't work well. I understood that, as a long time ago I bought a similar serger attachment for my Kenmore. It fit, but didn't cut, no matter what fabric I tried to sew with it.

I bought one for my Brother machine, but didn't end up using it a lot as it didn't give very satisfactory results - ended up getting a serger instead

There was a discussion here a few months ago that discussed these feet, which you might find helpful too.

Ditto. My Brother came with one and it wasn't worth the trouble. It "chewed" more than it cut. Ended up buying a serger.

Not for Brother, but had one for Bernina. They leave a lot of lint and cuttings to fall into the bobbin area....something you do not have with a serger as the lower area is pretty much open for easy cleaning.

I bought a Brother side cutter several years ago for 50 dollars from a dealer.I was told right away,if I didn't like it,I could return it,that should have been a hint for me.

The side cutter is a frustrating toy,as far as I'm concerned. I returned it the next day and bought a basic serger with differential feed on sale for $ 149.99 instead.I never looked back.

If you don't own a walking foot,I think it is a better investment than a side cutter.
