Date: 3/6/13 1:15 AM I sew a ton of girl's dresses and am yearning for a ruffler for my brother n -400prw. I've read a bunch of bad reviews about cheap ones that don't work. Is there a good source of high quality ones without breaking the bank? |

Date: 3/6/13 2:14 AM Depending on your sewing machine, you can get an adapter and one of the vintage Singer ones. They're solid metal.
if your machine is a low shank, you won't need an adapter!

Date: 3/6/13 8:24 AM as a (Past life) sewing machine dealer we used to reccommend low shank Elna rufflers for most Brother sewing machines as their quality was very good.

Date: 3/6/13 1:48 PM I've bent every ruffler I've ever had, including vintage Singer. Maybe the brand name ones like Janome/Elna cost more for a reason. Let us know what you find, please. ------

Date: 3/7/13 4:14 AM I never heard of bending a ruffler! But glad you posted because now I know not to buy an inexpensive no name if I were to ever need to replace one.
The ones I have used are:
Singer treadle ruffler- used since early 1900, Singer 301 ruffler - used since 1954
Bernina brand ruffler- used since 2005.
They all work very well.

Date: 3/7/13 7:15 AM There is a stand alone ruffler machine that works great. It is the Johnson ruffler and i think I saw them for 250. To 300. Well worth the investment if you are doing a lot of custom sewing. Do a web search and you might find a used machine ------
