I was lucky to buy a Pfaff Ambition 1.5 over the summer. The machine is wonderful. The only thing that is driving me crazy is that I can't figure out how to free motion quilt. I have disengaged the feed dogs. But I don't understand hoe to set the presser foot at the halfway position. Or is there some other way to set the machine so that the fabric will glide under the presser foot??? The instruction manual is very vague. I have another Pfaff machine and the don't work the same way. I would ask the dealer, but I am in Italy and my Italian is terrible.

Please help! I would love to get quilting!

You need a darning/embroidery foot as they are usually called.

As well, there are folks here who do their FMQ on a Pfaff and can help as well!

It looks like the free motion presser foot is optional with this machine. Did you get one?

Did you make sure to disengage the IDT?

While a darning foot may be helpful I am not sure it is always a requirement. But perhaps so on newer machines? I have dropped feed dogs on many models since the 1950's and used a regular straight stitch in the center position with a normal foot. I don't own your model though.

Look up what you need; clear is good and some spring for multiple levels.

Print and take with you when shopping.

That should help with any language barrier.

My Pfaff Expression 3.0 has a little sliding thing on the end of the needle up/down lever at the back. This puts it in the half-way position for freemotion quilting. I agree that the manuals for Pfaff are inadequate. I got a bigger instruction manual when I bought a toaster.

ambition 1.5

according to this, to FMQ you just drop the feed dogs and attach the FMQ presser foot.

I don't have to do anything else, so I am not sure about needing to change the presser foot height to half way position on your machine.
Where did you see that you need to do this in order to FMQ?

The 1/2 way down level is called mezamine. It has been on most Pfaff machines for a long time. The Pfaff 1.0 & 1.5 do not have this, but you do need the proper darning foot for this model machine.
