I have been sewing the strips all week. I wanted to do something more interesting with the bits - but, I also wanted to try the floral edge.
I like the way it came out. I used some scraps ro make the strip sets and some of the leftover reds from the other quilts.
And FMQ it at home - doodles. ------ Drag queen quilter! |

Date: 3/9/13 8:22 AM I am always completely amazed at your eye for a cohesive quilt. How you can take such obviously different fabrics and make a "whole" that flows is awesome. I'm only good at making cohesive quilts when I buy a fabric set or a kit.
Keep on quilting and showing us your results. ------ Sewing: A creative mess is better than tidy idleness. ~Author Unknown

Date: 3/9/13 9:41 AM I would not have thought to cut up fabric like that to make it non-directional. Brilliant!
LOVE the quilt. ------ Cathryn |

Problem solved. I really like how you made the diamonds in all the various colors and brillant cutting them up and mixing the directions so it just flows! Great use of color and scraps!!!
I didn't see the "flowers" so much on the border, they looked like paint slashes as my eye was drawn into the quilt!
Awesome Job Portland!!! ------ I have great enthusium for sewing, but lack talent to be great.

Date: 3/9/13 2:55 PM I really like it. On paper it would sound too busy, but the floral border picks up enough of the colors from the blocks that it ties it together. ------ Barb |

Date: 3/9/13 3:52 PM I love the way the floral softens the edginess of this quilt. Again your eye for color is astonishing! Nice work!
Hey Portland, We would love to have you come join us over at the Quilter's Sew Along. Muffet just joined and others haven't even started the quilts we are working on. I think your eye for color and the way you love to work with scraps would be perfect. Now, I remember somewhere in another thread that you said you were not so much a joiner but really this isn't an exclusive club, just a bunch of us who want to sew quilts together. Of course you can sew what ever you want. We are having a blast and it is a very dynamic thread. How 'bout it? ------ Janome MC6600 Bernina 240 Juki MO735 Singer 201-2 Singer 221-1 Singer 15-91 |

Date: 3/10/13 0:17 AM I don't know, but I think your quilt just speaks to me, the outer border of white and the floral bi-directional border makes me think I am looking through a window of stain glass. Beautiful work and to think this is scraps, amazing. ------ Patty

2 members like this. Date: 3/10/13 2:05 PM Hey guys -
The sun has been out here for the last two days. !!!!
Ive been outside with George and taking in every drop of it that I can and only checking in with the computer.
I super love this quilt and love that it is equal parts scrap and new fabrics. And that is sort of a more "spring" feeling quilt after the heavy colors of winter. I have to push myself now to learn some new patterns or start to design new patterns because Im bored with the few I do a lot.
I am getting to make some new things for the quilts Im making for people who supported me and my house - so Im thrilled with that.
Its not so much that I dont like to join groups - its that I never finish group work and feel like I end up letting people down.
We have sun again today and George and I are heading out into it.
thank you for the responses and nice words. I will write more later -- just this SUN is amazing after a long bleak few weeks packed with big storms. ------ Drag queen quilter! |
