Date: 3/10/13 12:09 PM Great way to use up scraps that aren't large enough for adults.
If you don't have a serger, you can still lettuce-edge by using any decorative stitch that will zigzag over the edge.
I just tried a remnant with a contrast stretched Shell stitch, tho it won't be as bright as multi-thread serging.
Fast project--next time I would just baste the straps on flat (they folded back) as they will be stitched down twice when you shirr it anyway. I like to backstitch at the end of the line, then just pull up a little and drop your foot down the width of it for the next line, which gives you a little extra for stretching.
A size 5 looked small in a not-real-stretchy pique when done, but it's not.
Measurements figure about 1 and 1/2x the chest for a knit.
Would this work for a woven, as it's usually twice the chest, a full 45" width for a 5 shirred sundress?
These spring fabrics in JA are $20+ yd!, shirr your own with fun prints.
For a woven without a serger, I would trying adding contrast binding or lace on at least the straps first for more color.
