French fashion blog (with a little sewing thrown in)

I love her taste. She has an amazing ability to put stylish outfits together. There is a tutorial on her blog for making that skirt by the way.

How does she get away with mixing stripes, 2 plaids and at least one color that clashes?

If I tried half of that, it would be fail!

She pulls it off looking put together without a "Garanimals" label!

Love her red moto jacket I plan on making one with a belt like that. I think Burda Style has a pattern very similar to that
~~~~~
I love putting together whole outfits from top down and taking a photo for future ref. i have sooooo many clothes LOL from years of sewing and wardrobe competitions etc its nice to have outfits all categorized with jewelry shoes etc.
In fact by end of summer hope to have Style's 28 days of Amazing Outfits , Jan 2010 outfits all photographed, garments sewn, reviewed and individual pieces listed. Phew very time consuming when we sew our clothes. Some cardy's I have bought cos they are tricky to look good sewn and if $15-$20 in a lovely fine wool or rayon its not worth it to struggle to get hem/bands nice. I am making a nice thick mohair wool cardy however and may crochet the hems.
But just love it.
Its why I sew...copying RTW for a fraction of price.
LOL I am also working on Oct 2010 28 Days , Oct 2011 and Oct 2012. Hahahaha
Oct this year they will come out with another spread...keeps my juices flowing and so much fun to try and match patterns, fabrics from my large stash to recreate what the have shown.
Mary she pulls it off because its all red tones , the stripes and plaid that is and solid red to tie it together. And lovely neutral grey skirt, black tights ballet flats and bag. Beautiful selection
Plaids and stripes or prints and stripes CAN go together. In fact shown many times by stylists. Key is two different SIZES of the mixed prints (plaid/stripes/florals) and always in same tonal family. And then a solid in same family to tie all together.
Is fun
I enjoyed reading your comments especially about combing colors/prints.
What is Style's 28 days of Amazing Outfits?
thank You for asking
It's what i have been working on off/on for past few years. I started collecting the Style magazine 4 week spreads back in Jan 2010. They have since had an Oct 2010 one, Oct 2011 and Oct 2012 It is so much fun to try and knock off all the selections, down to jewelry and shoes Yeah I'm a bit of a fanatic but it keeps my creative juices going and I love styling clothes. I have not scanned all the weeks to Flickr yet but I may have just one
here
It is three days from third week of Oct 2010. I had been asking an eBay vendor to find that cute necklace.
I made the red cowl dress ( Vogue), camel jacket is on its way, stripe knit top I just got exact fabric from Fabric.com, black denim skirt with zipper is on its way, charcoal tweed pants are made, I have fabric for red print shirt, leather for the jacket ......SCARED to start that
But still many weeks of work left.
As I have a total of 112 days of outfits(4 sets of 28 days) but many garments are already made.
hahahaaha then Style may come out in Oct with another spread ! But I sure like looking for exact fabric/patterns etc. And the odd piece of jewelry/belts etc highly discounted.
i am hoping to have done Jan 2010 by end summer, many of the days are already done. Thanks for your interest
I'll check it out.
all I ever did online with respect to fashion was blog about a very small closet ...
seriously though I have to push myself to do the accessories and I'm realizing that's what really makes you look stylish.
eta: okay I see what you're talking about (I haven't even heard of Style magazine.) It must be amazing to have so many outfits pulled together!
I got excited about the VSC concept because it was 6 bottoms each paired with 2 separate tops, jackets, accessories and shoes to make a total of 12 outfits. I finished 1. (I promise I'm working on it!!!)
that's great!
Keep on chugging I think I read about VSC. Was it Vivienne files or something?
It feels very good to have pulled together outfits especially the shoes, belts, scarves, jewelry part. Pieces that you can wear over and over again with different garments and completely change the look.
I like Style magazine and Lucky as they have more down to earth looks for professional women. Vogue, Elle, Harpers can be bizarre in their selections. I mean who wears some of that stuff????
Of course the prices are way beyond my budget and hence the fun sewing recreating part
Actually it was just an image consultant named Jennifer Skinner who blogged about it for a while. She took everything down quite some time ago saying she was going to write a book. I keep looking for the book but haven't seen anything.
I blogged about it and posted it here so you may have seen that link. I'll keep my eyes out for the magazine.
It frustrates me as I recognize style but I don't know how to get there! It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't recognize it. I'm the same way with home decor.
I can copy though so thanks for pointing out those spreads!! Are you dressing like this pretty much now? How are you approaching handbags? Just one great handbag could set my clothing budget back a year!
I have 2-3 of really good leather handbags that I ave kept for 15-20 yrs. The rest are inexpensive fun clutches., totes etc. I also tried my hand at 3...check my reviews
But i may not make any more ...the thickness was really hard on my machine I hand cranked most of it
I think remember Jennifer Skinner now and VSC
When I get dressed for work I make it fun. say start off with a great colorful pair of shoes and build from there.
Or sometimes even a necklace that you want to show case on a top/dress.
Then decide what will go with that.
Or say is today a dress, pant or skirt day. What colour feels good today?
Warmth//.... but then you can always layer over lighter weight garments.
~~~~
What was the one outfit you finished from VSC? What is your colour scheme?
