I will be in Monterey California this coming weekend for a wedding and would love to scope out any near by fabric stores. I know about Hart's Fabric in Santa Cruz, but that's all.

Coming from a city that is nearly a fabric desert (other than Joann and Hancocks) a browse in a good shop would be lovely.

Thanks for your help.

I love Harts and if you like them on face book there was a 10percent coupon. Monterey has a have a quilt/fabric store:

Loes Hinse's shop in Carmel had some lovely stuff last time I was there, but that was years ago. According to her web site, she still does, so it might be worth a visit.

It is not near Monterey, and I do not know how far away you are, but there are two fun stores: Stonemountain and Daughter in Berkeley, and Britex in San Francisco. Both stores are about two hours away from Monterey.

I live in the Bay Area, and am not really near Monterey. It appears you are in Kansas? If you are, these might be worth the schlep.

Parking for both can be tricky, and it may cost some if you are in SF. However, you can have some wonderful sourdough afterwards!

The urls for these stores are:
Stonemountain and Daughter: www.stonemountainfabric.com/
Britex: www.britexfabrics.com

Of course, you can always find a JoAnnns and a Beverlys smattered about the areas, but those are the only two that I can think of in the area that are really worth visiting.

Good luck and have fun! Monterey is wonderful! While you are there, you can go to Pacific Grove, and see the Monarch butterflies and their habitat. It is amazing to see so many butterflies in one location.

There used to be a Robert Talbott tie outlet in Carmel Valley that was fun. They sold tie fabrics that are upscale gorgeous. (Michelle Obama wore a dress made from this jacquard type fabric for inauguration.). Fabrics make beautiful hong kong finishes.

Not sure if the outlet is still there.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. SF is too far away for the short time we'll be there. We're flying in to San Jose so heading to SF would be the opposite direction of our hotel. Too bad this wedding didn't coincide with PR weekend. It was going to but the couple changed their date, darn it.

Loes's shop is definitely on the list. Lovely fabrics and so close; how could I not stop there?? I'll also check out Back Porch and the tie outlet.

Thanks again, everyone. I sure do appreciate your help.

There is a Beverly's in Monterey. It's a small chain in California. I've never been to one. But, it might be worth checking out.

Loes' place and Hart's, for sure. Beverly's as a not very exciting third. Something happened to the store's focus a few years ago and now I cannot really recommend it.

Too bad you will not really have time for Britex or Stonemountain. Maybe next time.

Hi,
I have ordered from Hart's Fabrics online many times but have never been to it in person. I have been very impressed with the quality of their fabrics and the service. I would be going there in a heartbeat if I were in Monterey.
Also, the aquarium is wonderful if you have time to see it.

Thanks again, everyone. We leave in the morning. Not much room left in my suitcase but surely I can squeeze in a few yards of something!
