Bodice/Collar Help!

Help! I'm a beginner sewer, so I choose a very easy Vogue pattern v8825; however, it may not be so easy after all.

I'm cutting a size 12. Pattern piece #1 (bodice/collar) are all one piece. Below the lengthening line of the bodice the cutting line says size 12 but above the lengthening line it turnes into a size 10. The same for the center back. The cutline starts at size 12; however above the fold line it goes to a size 8 if I were to cut straight across.

1. Should I cut straight through starting at the size 12 and ending at the size 10 (or 8 depending on what section I'm cutting);

2. Should I start cutting at the size 12 and cut on the fold line or the lengthening line to "grade" up or reach the size 12 on the other end; or

3. Should I do something totally different?

By all accounts from the reviewers of this pattern, this dress should be really, really simply. I hope that my explaination makes sense enough for someone to help. Thanks.

I see no one has replied yet. That is very unusual for any printed pattern.
Generally all the size lines look different- straight, dotted and dashed, dashed, etc.
Are you seeing only one line or multiple cutting lines?
If defective printing then you could return to the store.
Another suggestion is to use PR to look up the reviews on the pattern number and then PM the people that already made it for specific help.

SandiMacD - thanks a million-gazillion! After taking a closer look, it seems that the bodice/collar piece is defective. The solid cut line for size 16 starts two lines down - on a dashed line - (16 is the highest size for my pattern) in one place and three lines down on a different type of dashed line in another place. All of the other pattern pieces have the size 16 line starting on the outer solid cut line.

Of course I would get this bizzare pattern piece.

There are a number of reviews of Vogue 8825 -- have a look at them and see if anyone else is reporting that there's an error. If not, post a photo if you can, and maybe someone can figure out what the issue is.

P.S. With Vogue, "easy" sort of means "easier than some other patterns we sell." It doesn't necessarily mean beginner friendly.

Hope that helps.

Have the dots for the other sizes (or the labeling of the dots) just ended up on or close to the cutting lines? That happens fairly frequently.

Thanks all! I bought the pattern based on the other reviews . None of the other review mentioned having any issues such as this. With the help of the first reply, I believe that I figured it out.

We'll see how this works. Thanks a million!

When I began sewing years ago, I bought vogue patterns but never could understand them so I then bought other named patterns so I know what you are going thru.

If only the Vogue dresses weren't so darn attractive. I took a pic w/my hubby's camera and will post the issue. I've finished the bodice section (yes, that horrible section with all of the errors on the pattern) and will post pics of my finished product in the pattern review section.
