Okay, I am about to declare the next trend in knitted hats. (and unfortunately, we're going into Spring in NYC)

Nihilistic Hats.

Yeah, I had to look up Nihilism, too:

Nihilism is the philosophical doctrine suggesting the negation of one or more putatively meaningful aspects of life. Nihilism is the belief that all values are baseless and that nothing can be known or communicated; a viewpoint that traditional values and beliefs are unfounded.

The founding oeuvre* in this movement is StitchyMama's Robot Hat which to me, after seasons of adorable animal hats (that started with just ears and by now has businessmen walking around in entire knitted raccoon outfits), this hat negates the endearing recognizability of animal hats. What? It does further. I'm not sure it actually is a hat.

Is it? And is it a robot? That is for its creator to answer. The important thing is that unless you're willing to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge right now in a final statement that existence is senseless and useless. (another definition of nihilism), this hat's ambiguity demands that we search our minds for meaning, and as such, examine our own personal justification.

In short, if it looks like SOMETHING to you, well...you might want to talk that over with your shrink. I mean, you can't just give her $120 and just SIT THERE, can you?

So there it is for next cold season (AU and NZ, you may have to take the lead on this). Hats with tubes going from no place to no place. With orange pyramids over the ears. With a Tyrolean braid that's meant to be worn in front of your face. With a USB port.

This hat asks, "Do you know what I am? --
WELL I SURE AIN'T SITTING IN NO FREAKIN' TREE EATIN' NUTS, I'LLTELLYATHAT!"

<

*And, yes, of course I had to look up "oeuvre", too.

By the way, this is the FOUNDING DOCUMENT of the Movement.

I'll stick with the animal hats!!

------
2014 resolution: keep track of sewn yardage!! I'm subtracting fabric given away from my yardage in. Yeah!
In: 93 yards
Sewn: 69 yards

I'll try anything once :)

Please excuse my typos...sometimes it is harder to go back and edit on mobile than it is worth!

Have you already said where we can get the instructions? A Knit Along for Steam Punkers Invaded from Mars?

It occurs to me that the hat may be on backwards? Or, is it just me after working with young adolescents all week . . . Feel I need those big eyes on the back of my head.

I refer you to our Manifesto.

Also, we await the input of StitchyMama who may not know right now that she the founding mother of this movement.

But I do like where you're going with this.
