Nancy's notions used to sell them

I'm looking for Pattern Keepers that used to be sold by Nancy's Notions. They were plastic and had a sleeve where you put the envelope in and then a separate part for the pattern pieces.

I don't necessarily need to have the exact ones that Nancy's Notions sold, but I am looking for something similar. I once bought a pattern off of eBay that came in a simple plastic type pattern envelope that I liked.

If anyone knows where I could find something similar made specifically for patterns (or a good tried and true homemade alternative other than Ziploc bags), please let me know. I'm getting pretty frustrated trying to store my patterns back in their envelopes.

Comic book protectors. Yup, I also discovered them when I bought a pattern on eBay and it came inside one.

Crystal clear and plenty of room: I trace off my patterns and make notes: everything including the pattern envelope fits in the protector.

Oh wow....I would never have thought of that! Sure enough, went onto Amazon.com and they have a pack of 100 for $8.99. PERFECT! They even have cardboard backers that you can buy to put in there as well. I thought that would be a neat thing to tape a piece of paper to and write my notes down.

Thanks so much!!!!!

I tell you: I consider it a totally lucky break that I got one on an eBay pattern buy. I loved that one plastic sleeve so much, I did the research until I found out what they were. You can't beat the price and the size is exactly right for the original pattern and plenty of additions, without being so big that everything swims in there.

So glad to pass that info on!

Another nice thing: if you fold a piece of copy paper: it's a perfect fit for the sleeve. Now you have a little folder to hold altered pattern pieces and magazine clippings, or a booklet to write notes.

I did a review on pattern storage bags here which are comic book bags.

Make sure you buy the Silver size bags which are a little larger than the regular comic book bags. The Silver's are large enough to hold all the extra pattern pieces you might trace.

Oh, and the comic book bags are way cheaper than the zip locks made for patterns.

pj3g's link takes you to her review, which has a link to her source for the bags. I'm going to swing by my local comic book store today and see if they have them. I love the store but don't collect comics. It will be good to give the locals some business if I can!

My recomendation: Bring a sample pattern with you. The comic books/comic magazines come in different sizes.

I bought a pack of comic book covers at my local comic store. When they realised that I was going to store my vintage patterns in them they were a teensy bit patronising, until I reminded them that some people think collecting vintage comics is silly too; and that we have the same issue of preserving very old paper products that when made weren't designed to be kept for so many years.
