The 1031DC I asked about the other day arrived today. I've downloaded the manual and set her up-so far so good. My other machine is a 1980 Kenmore, so I was surprised when I turned on my new machine to hear a motor! Guess that is the electronics? I sewed a bit to get the feel and check out the straight stitch. Then I eagerly attached the walking foot that I ordered separately (not made by Bernina, but supposed to fit). Then I sewed a sandwich of batting and fabric, but noticed the motor did not make a sound, but the stitches are fine. Can anyone explain? Am I harming the machine?

I don't hear anything when I turn mine on. Perhaps your bobbin winder was engaged.

Does this machine have half-speed, and if so, was it engaged?
