I need help figuring out how to sew the bottoms reversible to a bikini. I want to make a boy short. When I flip it right side out after sewing the waistband gets stuck inside and its sewn shut. Any tips for this swimwear? Thanks ;)

have you ever made a lined vest? I am thinking maybe the same technique where you leave part of the lining (other fabric) open at the sides and then stitch shut after turning? Go to a Joann's and read the instructions for a lined vest and see if it makes sense.

After I've tried several time to do a perfect seamless reversible bottom bikini and it ended up unevenly or mess up. Can anyone please let me know how to do this by steps? I able to do the seamless around the legs after laid right sides of two bottoms then sew legs together then flip and sew right sides to sides. (Please forgive me if my English isn't right... English is my second language) Hope to hear from anyone? Ps do I need to add elastic around the waist to make it looks neat?

This is quite a puzzle. I have been thinking about this since this was first posted.

In order to completely turn a reversible or lined project, the project must be sewn so that there is a basic tube shape AND you need an opening (at least one opening) through which the tube can be turned.

A lined/reversible bikini bottom (or panties) does not easily lend itself to this type of turning since there are 3 openings where the two layers must be sewn to each other: the two leg openings and the waist opening. It is not immediately obvious to me how to make this into a basic tube shape. I'm not saying that it's impossible, just that it's not easy, and would probably require that several seams need to be left open/not stitched.

I can think of a couple of ways to sew open seams closed once you've turned a project, but for swimwear, you want the seams on both sides of the bikini bottoms/panties to be smooth and even and to match all the other seams. I'm not sure that hand stitching or edge stitching would be a desirable seaming method for swimwear.

I did find a pattern that includes actual reversible panties:
McCalls 6058 on PR (It's been reviewed.)
McCalls M6058 on McCalls website

This is for a toddler outfit in a woven, but I was hoping to find the instructions online somewhere just to read how they do the reversible panties. I doubt that the M6058 reversible panty technique would work well for bikini bottoms, but now I'm curious to know how they do it in M6058.

Sorry, Not much help,
CMC

Thank you so much for that pattern. Maybe It can help I will check it out! It definitely is puzzling and one of those things that is just driving me crazy and I can't stop thinking about and unsuccessfully trying lol! maybe someone will have done this before and will see this post eventually and have a step by step process they can share. This is a big trend right now and almost every company has this finishing to their swimwear.

Did you figure out how to flip it with only one or two small openings? Is your difficulty just that it is uneven? Or are you also stumped on the steps to sew it reversible?

If I understand, you'd like a bottom with a waistband that can be worn either side out. I would make the bottom leaving the waist open, turn it right side out, then add the waistband. Sew the top and side seams of the band, then sandwich the top edge of the bottom in it, then sew waistband and bottom together.

How would you finish the leg openings?

I used to make fully lined dance shorts and briefs that could be reversed, but they definitely have seams in them.
