I love making clasp purses . . . until I get to the part where I have to glue the purse to the clasp. When I push the fabric into the channel I get glue all over the fabric. I've used all types of tools to try and prevent this from happening, but I still smear the glue. does anyone have any tricks they can share? Or, as a last resort, does anyone know of a glue that I can easily remove from the fabric when I goof?

thanks
Nan

Is it possible you are using too much glue? If you're using a pva/white glue, you should only be putting on a very thin layer. Not enough for excess to squeeze out when you make contact. Try brushing it on with a small paintbrush.

I think I might try something like this:
double sided tape

I believe it used to be called "millennium tape" but I can no longer find any reference to that.

This may sound weird, but I have applies hot glue to an item, let it cool...place it where I want it ...added heat, such as an iron, and the glue resoftens and attatches with no mess. I have never tried it on a purse, but I have done this with a belt and on costumes.
good luck
Pam

Thanks Everyone!
I'll definitely try using less glue
And the suggestion for cool hot glue is great!

Hi Nan

This tutorial shows the techniqe Lisa Lam of U-Handbag uses for this and she suggests using masking tape to protect the fabric.
