Machine Knitting? Anybody here do it?

Today I finially joined the local machine knitters group and spent a couple of hours casting on, doing a few rows, decreasing and then casting off. Gosh, it's hard taking up a new hobby! After 20 years away from it I set up my LK150 manual machine in the hall for the daughter to try who wanted to make a scarf. The scarf is half done just sitting there and she's lost interest in what was just plain whack it back and forth knitting. The biggest problem was putting the yarn on a cone, I couldn't find the cone winder. I used to do picture sweaters, oh so 1980's but there's got to be something modern I can do with machine knit.

I belong to a local guild and that's helped. I've sewn for 35 years, from bridal to home dec, and have done every type of needlework....but learning this knitting machine is one of the hardest things I've ever done. For that reason only, I won't give up! lol I know there are several extrememly talented machine knitters on this board, maybe they'll join in. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

I must admit I find the increasing/decreasing fiddly and are very tempted to skip it and simply make yardage or felt it to make yardage. But I'm trying to keep that idea(s) in my back pocket as a "get out of jail free" card if things don't work out. When I bough my machine, it came with a stack of knitting magazines from the 70's. It makes the garments from a knitting machine look very dated and I definitely agree it's going to be a challenge to get a modern feel. I suppose I'll just look to RTW for inspiration like I do my sewing. Thanks for the you tube idea. Unfortunately my internet connection is lousy and I have no sound. Bummer. For instance with my basic mid gauge Brother, you do all the patterning manually including lace and use the same carriage. On my punchcard Studio machine, it comes with a lace carriage. I believe the higher end Brother is the only machine that's capable of a true garter stitch, with the other machines the stitches are manipulated with a garter bar. (feel free to correct me) ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

It seems I have a lot to learn because I can barely tell you what my machine is..... I'll get it set up and take a pic. Matbe someone here could tell me.
