I'm about to start a huge king-sized coverlet so that for once, i'll have one that drops past the mattress! I'd like to quilt it myself and would like to cut the batting into 3rds. I was told to cut w/ a wavy line and then butt them together and use this tape. I'll quilt the middle section first and won't have as much bulk on the sides. I know i could hand-baste the batting sides back to the middle, but the tape sounds great and worked beautifully for the person who told me about it. Does anyone know the name of this tape and where to buy it?

I just got some in from Keepsake Quilting, but have not used it yet.

I have heard great things about it too.

Honestly the last quilt I made using this method of joining batting I just used some very light-weigt fusible interfacting, cut it in strips and away I went. I have a whole bolt of the stuff so may as well use it right? It worked very well. It hasn't added any bulk to the quilt or stiffness and you could not tell the difference between the interfaced and non-interfaced areas of the batting. I used a 50% off coupon for the bolt which makes it very similar in price to what you see the fusible tapes advertised at.

Hmmm I had never heard of this & have been hand basting it together. Also what the last poster said makes sense too. Hmmm could be a real time saver maybe. Thank you for mentioning it.

Is it more cost effective to buy interfacing this way than in the sheets in plastic packages? You know light bulb just went off in my head ..... I bet it is easy to find this way too ??? Thanks for the tip.

If its a weight of interfacing you know you'll use for lots of things it is extremely cost effective, especialy with a 40-50% off coupon. You can use it for applique, clothing, or cut into strips for such things as joining batting, repairing the torn lining on my mom's coat etc.

Joann's has interfacing on sale tolerably often, and there are occasionally coupons that take some percentage off nearly everything, including sale items. As it happens, both those things happen to be true now.

If you use light interfacing for other things, it's almost certainly more economical than special batting tape.

I buy a couple of bolts of the lightweight interfacing every year at JoAnn's after Thanksgiving sale...the always seem to have it at half price or lower. If I need a heavier interfacing, I use two layers.

I will certainly try it for gluing the batting pieces together! Great idea!!

I always bought interfacing in very large quantities, but since I stopped making clothes I haven't replenished it.

That's a GREAT idea Amina! I bet it's cheaper than the tape, and like you say, WAY more versatile too!
