Okay, I downloaded a pile (100 or more) of freebie embroideries over the last month. Yesterday I finally got around to putting them on the 5D software organizer module. I have half of them done. today I decided to look at an applique to see how to do it. I remembered seeing the info in the zip, but thought it would also be within the info that goes into the worksheet when transferring the embroidery. like the pages showing the embroidery on a grid and the colors. No such luck. Did I need to transfer that too? I tried looking at the manual for Organizer to see if there is such a page that would show this info or where I put it and no luck. Or, do you all just print these out and keep as you transfer the embroideries to your system or do you put the instructions to embroideries in a folder on your computer? I'm dreading looking through all these embroideries (with no specific name) to find the 4-5 that have instructions.

How many of those freebies do you think you will actually use?

The original download, when unzipped should have the design format as well as a txt file with the color chart and possibly a grid. If it does not, then maybe it was a separate download, but it does not seem reasonable. Although, depending on where you got the downloads, freebies can be iffy.

I do not have the same software, so I cannot address details of this particular issue.

If I select all formats when accessing desgin files in the program I use, I can obtain the color chart. Just a thought.

Sorry if I didn't make it clear but yes in the zip file those things are in there but, when you un zip and select which file you want, which mine is vip, then transfer it those instruction sheets did not go with. Only the color and grid sheets. I thought maybe instruction sheet would be with also. So, maybe they don't and I should have put in a file on my computer labeling each one as to what it is?
A lot of the embroideries were packs of Christmas, Halloween and baby items. Which is big in my family so maybe or maybe not use them all but I like them. and really is 33 or so in each category really too many

The organizer does not read a txt or pdf file. You can add the notes manually or save them in a separate file.

Thank you! That is what I started to wonder. Wish I would have known before I did so much. Will make a file.

I have the 5D organizer as part of my suite. I have a folder on my C: Embroidery designs/ 1 sub-folder for each Brand or website/ with further subfolders for categories or collections 449 cutwork, 778 quilt, freebies, floral alp ext. When I download designs I save them within these collections. I only unzip when I need to work with something. For paid designs I do check to make sure they downloaded properly right away. I also have a folder for friends, subfolder by name. In this folder I save designs I work on, moddify or digitize. The 5D organizer will open files from anywhere on your computer including a cd, USB stick, and external hard drive. It won't open zip files and the newest versions take a bit before they can open.

Good System and thank you! I will be making a folder with subfolders like you mention for the embroideries with instructions. Just not today. I spent way too much time on this over the weekend. When I have a whole day I'll go back into the embroidery zips and find those. I do like seeing all the embroideries at once when I open them, so I think I will keep putting them into the 5D organizer. I will from now on, when unzipping files, put the instructions in a folder at the same time so I don't loose them. Always something to learn when using software. Glad there are so many out there willing to help

If you put all your designs to open in 1 folder it takes a long time. Too many (1000) will cause program to crash.

You might want to consider keeping you files in just folders you can make up yourself under my documents. Cos if there is a problem with your software you may not be able to get to your designs. Also that way you can keep the thread sheets etc with them and organize them anyway you want to.

That is not good. Thanks for giving me a heads up. I don't have 1000 thank goodness. But, I will from now on put folders on the desktop with each category and save them there.
