So I bout a Juki serger (the one with the coverstich) and I am disappointed. It doesnt seem to cut well. As in multiple layers it just gets clogged. Now granted.. I may have run over a pin or two... is that enough to dull the blades? I did have it serviced recently and the note did say that it sharpened the lower blade..... I am just ugh... about it. I my head it should just magically cut through layers but it doesnt... any advice?

Hitting a pin is enough to damage the knives. Sharpening may or may not work. You may need new ones.

Blades can sometimes be sharpened but may need to be replaced. And yes hitting a pin can damage the serger knife and cause it to cut unevenly or not at all.

I had a problem like this - I hadn't hit a pin but a hard jewel - it had knocked the lower knife down a bit, as soon as I realigned it with the throat plate it was good to go.

Did it cut through multiple layers before and doesn't now?
I would think a pin might do a nick but it would not dull the entire blade.

If it cut well before and then choked on layers and sharpening didn't help it is time to change the cutting blade.
But if it has always choked than I would ask the dealer about it.

As tiger girl says, my old serger had a lower blade that could be knocked out of alignment, so realigning it (which I did myself, very easily) was the cure for this problem every time. Definitely have a look at that before you spend a bunch of cash. I usually needed to raise it a millimeter or two - just loosened a screw and lifted it up a bit.

You may have hit a pin or two? I think you need a new blade.
Next time you pin for the serger, try pinning vertically just to the left of where the foot will ride as you sew.

Ok so it wasnt A pin it was two or three.... so I will check the blades and replace if needed. I felt like it used to do more than one layer but I really dont know cause I just got it and am just really getting used to it....

I ran over a couple of pins once and had to TOTALLY ~ REPLACE my old Bernina serger. That was one great serger too! Just be careful with those darn pins. But it sounds like you just need to replace the blades/knives.

I should of gone to tell that after running over those pins it broke something else inside the machine that couldn't be fixed. I messed up good that time! So now I'm very very careful.....
