Do any of you use those clip-on, flip-up magnifiers for hand work? A woman that I met in a workshop had some but they were a lot nicer than the ones that I've seen online. Any suggestions? Where else to look?
Thanks

I did a very labor intensive cross stitch picture for my daughter's wedding last year, and I used a couple of different magnifiers. I think I got one of them from Herrshner's (sp?)--they sell lots of hand work items. One of the ones I used was a magnifier with LED lights built in, and the other was just a regular, stronger clip on type that I used during the day. I wouldn't have been able to do my project without these, as the old eyes aren't what they used to be.

I have used them, I'm pretty sure I got them at a needlework shop and that they had differing strengths, just like the reading glasses you can buy. IIRC, they workded well, I can't remember why I put them away.

One thing I can say about magnifiers - the ones that prop against your chest and hang from a cord around the neck are useless. For me, the magnifier is too close and it reflected too much light. I was better off just taking off my glasses and holding the work 6 inches from my face.

Maybe that's why I put the clip-ons away? It's just easier to take off the glasses?
