Joann bottomweights selection isn't doing it for me

I found a pair of RTW capris that were done in linen/cotton blend. I loved the lightweight feel of the fabric, perfect for summer, but they didn't fit. I went to Joann's to look for fabric. The linen they have in the bottomweight selection is so light I can see through it. I've been using denim and twill but they're kind of heavy and can be a little to warm when it's hot outside. So what other kinds of fabric can I use that are somewhat lightweight, but yet heavy enough to be used for pants. What kind of weights should I look for?

Joann's has many lacks in its fabric choice but I agree with you that one of the biggest is the lack of real bottom weights like denim and twill and bottom weight plain weaves. If you don't have any other apparel fabric stores in your area it might be time to consider online sources. You can get swatches from a lot of vendors so you know the weight before you invest in the whole piece.

Eta: realized I didn't answer your question per se. I think that with linen you'd want something that was 12-14 oz. With blends and cotton I don't think there's a standard as far as weights, because so much depends on the weave.

You'll find a much better selection online than you will at JoAnn's. I'd suggest you look at Gorgeous Fabrics, Mood, Emmaonesock, and Marcy Tilton. All of them have a good selection of linens, linen blends and cotton lycras that will be better than anything you can find at JoAnn's and often better quality for less money.
A rayon blend with linen is a nice summer fabric that will drape nicely and be wrinkle less than straight linen. That said, I like how line wrinkles and if you wash it a few times the wrinkles get softer.

Thanks Ladies. I was doing a little research on fabric suppliers in my area. There's more than I thought there was. I've always gone to Joann because it was convenient. Guess I have a few others to check out.
