An appliquer's dreams. All I'm thinking is the relaxing time spent sewing around all these shapes.

Spring Spouts

I would just get the patterns not the kits. What a great way to use up scraps and fat quarters.

Awww geeze Wolf, you just HAD to find floral appliques, which just happen to be my most favorite kind of applique of all time.

AND they are in beautiful colors.....

Well I ordered the Spring Sprouts pattern. I so enjoyed doing the tree/leaf project. Not sure I'll do in in batiks though. Still have to finish/resolve the Celtic pattern. Was looking at it last night I think it's fixable. I've been playing with machines the last two nights need to get back into actually sewing.

Very pretty.

A speaker at our guild inspired me to try to learn needle turn applique. I don't hand sew ANYTHING. I ordered some needles and hope to sit down and try it soon.

I don't do hand work either, except for bindings, all fusible for me. I don't like working with very little pieces so the turning stuff even for the freezer paper method would drive me insane. I may try though just using the fusible around the edges since I would be sewing it down.

To me doing needle turn applique is not like regular hand sewing. I don't even like hand sewing buttons on, but applique or english paper piecing is different.

Try silk #100 thread for the appliques- it is a DREAM to applique with!

Cat have you ever looked into the Baltimore Album quilts, tons of floral applique in those.

Baltimore album quilts

First Lady of Baltimore Appliqued quilts

I've always wanted to make one. Cos I was born and raised in Baltimore. I currently have one of her books out of the library, it's a bit daunting to me.

I was just looking at that kit to learn machine appliqué without all the tedious cutting. I would probably substitute the background fabric, as I'm not crazy about the colors, and I hate to spend my precious time and energy to end up with something nearly identical to everyone else's.

I'm already doing at least one kit this year for my son, though I added 6+ of my own fabrics and deleted a couple from the kit, it will still look pretty much the same. I have 2-3 more requested kit quilts to make. They're fast and easy, but still.

I agree about not using the stuff from a kit. I would use my own fabrics, and change any part of the pattern I wasn't 100% in love with too!
