We are retiring and moving from MD to ME. I have looked for fabric stores and sewing machine shops (for servicing). Doesn't look like too many options. I have Pfaff sewing machines and Babylock Embroidery machine and serger. So if anyone has better information about that I would appreciate it.

We will be looking to buy a home in a neighborhood where there are sidewalks and easy walking distance to shops, cafes, etc. for a "retire in place" community. I am from Boothbay Harbor but we are planning to move into the Portland area. Those from Portland, feedback on neighborhoods to particularly look at? My husband is a pastry chef and is hopeful about opening a table at a farmers market. Thanks!

Hi Portia, my brother and his wife have lived in Maine since they went to Colby College. They've lived in South Portland for near 3 decades and love it there. They are newly retired this year. I asked if they would give some free advice. Well, my SIL Deborah is on a roll. She emailed me with a lot to share, including links to a Pfaff dealership. Their neighborhood is just great for all the things you mentioned.

I can forward the emails to you and put you in touch with Deborah the Great! Please shoot me a PM with your email contact and I'll pass the info on to you. I'd enjoy hearing how you fair with settling into your new stage of life. Best of luck.

If anyone else has an interest, say so. I can cut and paste from the email to post.

Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. Andy Rooney
