I am 6" tall and recently decided it is time to make my own jeans rather than paying $200 for ones off the rack that don't fit.
Where do I lengthen boot cut pants - at the knee or the hem? I need to add about 3".

I'd split the extra length and do 1.5 inches above the knee and another 1.5 inches below the knee.
I am going for a level of perfection that is only mine... Most of the pleasure is in getting that last little piece perfect...Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just keep showing up and doing the work.

From a fellow 6' tall person -- I would measure your legs to find out! My height is almost entirely in my legs, but I have to lengthen above my knees (thighs) more so than below (calves). This is probably even more important in boot cut pants, because they usually have a fairly defined knee.

I agree with JollyGreen - measure then lengthen them where you need it. You could end up needing to lengthen it only 1" in the thigh area and 2" in the calf area, or vice versa.
