Hi sewing friends,

I am in the market for a Babylock Evolution serger, after doing all the research on the features it looks like that most useful machine on the market. I live in Alaska and there is only one dealer up here, who quoted me 3,099 for the machine and the 6 feet promo. My wonderful mother-in-law in CA went to the local center near her and they quoted her 3,150 for the machine, 16 feet, 3 downturn fellers, upgrade workbook and 3 year gold standard plan. My question is: Is the CA deal a good deal? It's so much more than I was planning on spending, as I've been seeing on here that most folks are paying in the 2,500-2,900 range. Please advise!

I've read of prices $2100-2200, but locally I didn't find anything less than $2700 for a class/demo machine with full warranty, no extras. I don't doubt it's a fabulous machine, but I just can't justify that considering how much I'll use it (more quiltmaking than dressmaking).

I would buy from the local dealer. Ask what else they can throw in. Maybe a tote or something else a few more feet, the work book....

It sounds like a super deal to me, especially with the 16 feet! Those babies are expensive.

wow. i think $3150 is pretty amazing with all of those extras, but it might be worth it to buy locally since i assume that is where your machine will be serviced. i'd try to get them to throw in some extras.

Do you really need/want all 16 feet? If not you might try to negotiate without the feet. That's what I did. I really wanted the machine but I was on a strict budget, so I bought the machine only.....no feet....no workbook (although I really wish I had gotten the book) and no gold star plan. I was able to get mine for $2500. I would suggest getting it local so you can take the classes (which should be free). This is a great machine and you would really benefit from the classes.
One side note: the one foot that I highly recommend is the clear coverstitch foot. I also bought a generic belt loop maker foot on ebay that works like a charm for a fraction of the price.

I live in W. Montana and have only 1 (so called) dealer within 200 miles. I couldn't deal with him so I had to buy my machine from a dealer in Florida. I paid $2699 with no extras, no shipping and no tax (MT does not have a sales tax).
I am happy with my purchase and figure I got a reasonably good price. I didn't want the extra feet or other accessories.

Since it comes with the gold standard care, would buying it out of town be a problem with getting it serviced locally? We are a military family, it can be assumed that they service machines from all over as there is a large military population here. It is very unlikely that the local dealer will throw in that many extras for 150 dollars over the price he has listed. Alaska is very expensive and they are the only dealer in the state, so they can do what they want. Take it or leave it, kind of thing. I don't know if I want/need all those feet ( that's a good point) but I did look online and they are expensive. My MIL said her dealer would give me the machine, with zero extras, no book, no warranty for 2,500. Although it seems prudent to get the care plan and the book. I'm just frustrated with how complicated it's become to buy a darn machine!
