Hi

Has anyone ever made clothing from hopsack, particularly Joann's hopsack. I pick up some today because it was such a beautiful color and I thought it looked and felt nice. I want to make a dress from it Simplicity 1872, do you think that would work

I believe this pattern calls for a much lighter fabric than hopsacking.

height 5'2" bust 36, waist 31, hip 39.
I have way too many yards to count, and I will never use them up, but I will die trying!

I'd be worried about the drape as well. For the tiers of ruffles you'd want something pretty lightweight.

Years ago I made two dresses out of hopsacking, but not sure if the latest at Joann's is the same. The dresses were quite plain with either straight or A-line skirt.

If what you call hopsacking is what I think, it's very stiff and won't work well with ruffles.
