All I have is velvet fabric I wanted to make a bias cut palazzo pants. I think its doable as long as I dont fold it to get the 45 degrees but put the pattern at a 45 degree angle in all the areas. Than I was going to do a front drap doman short sleeve jacket with the same material.

I also don't knwo what kind of velvet it is , so I was going to wash and dry it first than work with it. I can't afford to take it tot he drycleaners everytime.

I am not quite sure what would be a good waistband. Would it be fine to do a casing waistband . Or a drawstring waistband.

A word of caution: wash a small bit of velvet first. It might come out looking like a wet cat. Normally velvet is a dry clean only.

There's an article in a recent Threads about bias-tube pants and how to draft them. I think they make a separate elastic waistband.

I love palazzo pants! I have a pair of black velvet that I just love. They have a flat front and side zip--front and back darts to shape.

The Threads magazine has a bias cut pant but I think the seam would circle around the pant leg. Not sure how that would look in velvet. Someone made the pants and posted a pic. Do a search on the message board for Threads magazine bias cut pants. Let us know what you decide!

Why bias pants with a fabric that has nap? Unless you're planning on using a center front and center back seam, the pants are going to look kind of odd.

I was thinking about that too. Basically, I just want a wide leg pull on pants.

I do have pajama pants pattern I guess I could alter the pattern to add extra fullness to the leg or slash and flare out.

Tell me what you think please.

Yes I read the article but it was way to confusing for me to attempt.

I am such a threads addict.

Now that you've found out your velvet is a knit, you need to find a pattern for knits instead of wovens.
