Has anyone visited Fabric Mart?
Thinking about driving there I think I love them that much ;-)

So I am scouring Fabric Mart's web site and restraining myself (especially since they have a 70% off section today), and I notice that they are only an hour and 45 minutes from me and have an actual retail store.

That is not horrible for a nice summer drive, especially since my husband travels so much this time of year for business. It would break up the week nicely to do a road trip for fabric. Has anyone visited the store before?

Yes, whenever I am in Lancaster, I drive up there! The store is not large, but it has nooks and side rooms that are fantastic, and filled to the ceiling! They are very pleasant and it is a fun shopping experience. They have a computer set up so you can look up the fabric that you are interested in, because nothing in the back rooms are marked except with their inventory numbers. They usually have notions that you won't find on line at very good prices too. Fun store!

I went there once or twice. I'm from Canada and we travel in PA, particularly in the fall. I had bags so full and they were not a lot of $$$$ Made me want to say to my DH to "start the car" like they did in that Ikea commercial.

Thanks ladies. I don't think I needed that much convincing, but you have made up my mind. It will be a great road trip when hubby is out of town. If I promise an ice cream stop for the kids on the way home everyone will be happy.

An hour and 45 minutes??? You are one lucky person! I would love to visit, but I'm about 4 hours away.

I was in Philly in March visiting my daughter, who hates fabric shopping so that wouldn't have been fun and it was her birhtday. I was going to rent a car on the day she went back to work to go up there, but The Flower Show had just started, so I had to do that instead. I had never been to the nations oldest flower show and really wanted to go and I might never get to see it again, but I would make myself go to FM. Besides, I am on a serious fabric diet. Have fallen off, but it is a serious effort. I am very leery of going into FM of the damage it would cause. I would have to check a bag going home!

Would there ever be a reason NOT to visit if you lived so close?
I would be in serious trouble if I lived within 2 hours of that place. I already spend way too much time on their website!!!!

You should go. You should definitely go. Make sure your car trunk is empty when you start out because it won't be on the way home. Ask me how I know. Okay, maybe we shouldn't address that...

P.S. Make sure you see all the buildings. The shop is actually several buildings and/or garages kind of cobbled together. It's not huge but it spreads out in unexpected directions.

VivianZ - I hoped you LOVED the flower show. I try very hard to go every year, but since kids I have only make it every other year. My other hobbies are photography and gardening so that is truly the place to be and what a show it is. I thought it was good this year, but my favorite year was surely the New Orleans theme. Believe it or not it actually seemed grander that year!

MamaSewing- If my thought was just of me getting into the car and having a nice leisurely drive an hour and 45 minutes to go shopping I probably wouldn't even be asking the question. However, I am a stay at home mom who's husband travels literally every other week (weekend inclusive) and I have no family (save one sister in law who we save for emergency care) or other child care in the area. So my 2 and 3 year old come with me everywhere (and my son is truly in his "no" and "terrible 2" phases). I don't get to run any errands or have a day of shopping without them..... not really complaining... just saying, it makes short trips an all day affair with just potty stops between the two of them right now

Andi - I agree, I always set a budget when I shop for things like that. I would take cash with me so I don't let myself go even a little over.
