I just got 4 yards of some beautiful, soft purple fabric that kind of reminds me of a gauze or lightweight linen that looks wrinkly. I got it dirt cheap and it washed and dried up nicely. I had some teal color like it several years ago and made a sleeveless wrap top and elastic pants for the summer. I'm getting where I hate to wear shorts because my legs are so white and I have the spider veins in my calves. With only being 5' tall, I look terrible in capris and I hate skirts that show my legs too. I can picture a long flowing skirt out of this fabric with an elastic waist. I'm trying to find a top to go with it that will not be tucked in. Any suggestions?

Well, title says dress, question says top... There are a lot of maxi dress patterns, off the top of my head McCalls 6747 and 6697 both have sleeves. The diagonal lines of 6697 would help add the illusion of height by drawing the eye vertically even if you don't use a contrast.
Though it's not what you asked for help on, as a fellow glow-in-the-dark American, sunless tanners really help. I don't use it to get a dark tan, just to keep me from blinding the innocent.

I can find a maxi skirt pattern but would like to find a top pattern to go with it. I can't seem to find a maxi dress that isn't low cut.

I agree, those wonderful maxi dresses are low cut & sleeveless...hard to find! Being older, I just want comfort & coverup, not revealing...

Have you considered the Pattern Review pattern? It looks like it would be easy to lengthen it to a maxi.
