I seem to be obsessed with this stitch at the moment.

I love sewing on my little Activa 135S but it doesn't have the lightening bolt stitch on it. This is my favourite machine ever and I just wish it had that one more stitch. I like the narrow feet and the small stitch width.

I have a Brother bought cheaply that is okay but does have this stitch and I am using it for stretch seams. The Brother is not my favourite machine but is lightweight and was bought for classes. It doesn't have a needle threader and more annoyingly the stitch is only adjustable slightly ever 0.5 which annoys me. I would love an excuse to sell that Brother if I could pick up a second hand activa or something with that lightening bolt stitch.

Anyone who haves an older Bernina with this stitch please list your model numbers.

Thanks.

Bernina calls it the super stretch stitch.

PM Gothdom. If anyone would know, it would be her. I think she has nearly every model of sewing machine ever made. She has all the mechanical Berninas and some of the electronic ones.
This is a link to her website.

She has a new son, so the website might get her attention faster than PR. She is not on PR much since her son was born. Way too busy.

Subject: Lightning bolt stitch for stretch fabrics on Bernina Machines. Date: 4/18/13 1:38 PM

This blogpost discusses how to use theLightning Bolt Stitch, but more importantly, she shows where it's located on her bernina sewing machine and which pictogram is associated with it.

On most bernina machines, including the machine you already have, it's stitch 9.

SMAD averted?

(The patchworkedition 135 might have omitted it. Nevertheless, the activa 125 and the activa 210, both extremely basic machines, have it)

My 1130 does not have the lightning stitch. My 730 Artista (not very old) does.

It's possible that it was introduced around 2000-- i.e. the 1x5 activa generation.

Argh, the Bernina website only shows stitches 11 on up on the 350PE which is what I have. I'm thinking that surely it or even the 330 should have that stitch. I'm at work and can't look at mine.

It's not possible for a mechanical machine to make this stitch as it requires the feed to stop completely after every other stitch something a cam would not be able to do. It would only be on computerized models.

Thanks for the reply I forget mine has the PE after the 135 so my stitch nine is a blanket stitch.

I sadly don't have the super stretch or the stretch overlock stitch.

I have a 180 that has that stitch. I agree, it is a very useful stitch. Mine is stitch #11.
