I know we have one very popular member from Texas but to all Texans this morning, you are in my prayers. Waco is just horrible. I hope the find this was just a fire/accident.

Thank you . we have a lot of members here in TX.. None that I know of reside in West.. the site of the explosion..

I am sure most have now seen the initial news reports.. It did start as a fire.. then the plant exploded.. As it was a fertilizer plant lots of ammonia, nitrates, etc.. lots of really flammable material explained the brute force and huge explosion .

I was up all nite watching what was so surreal. I will post on this later ..

Checking in from Austin. We're 125 miles away and all safe here, but heartbroken. West is a really special little town and anyone who drives I-35 to Dallas to see her sewing sisters and do a little fabric shopping (who me?) knows that's the place to stop for a kolache fix.

On top of it all, we're finally getting some much-needed rain in Central Texas, which makes me feel even more for the affected families and first responders.

Can't close without giving a shout out to volunteer firefighters. <3

I agree. Volunteer firefighters are very special people.

So very sad for West. A friend of a friend lost both her brothers last night. They were among the first volunteer firefighters on the scene last night.

Keeping West and Waco in prayers and meditations. A horrible tragedy.

DH spent a great deal of time in that area working on a volatile chemical distribution facility. Sad irony. He has nothing but praise for the kindness and generosity of the people.

Thoughts and prayers to all the people in that area who are affected and/or have loved ones who were killed or injured. May those missing be found safe, may the injured have a swift and full recovery.

Kudos to the real heros: the first line responders - volunteer or not - and even the average Joe and Jane who just get out there and lend a hand and do whatever they can to help and provide comfort.
